A professor and 15 collete students wading near Pahayokee Overlook near Miami, Florida, were caught off guard when an alligator bit one of the female students.
Per reports from the Associated Press, alligator bites in the area are rare. A spokesperson for Everglades National Park warned visitors that it is important to pay attention and stay on high alert while in the area. Swimming in areas where there are alligators is not recommended.
The student is expected to make a recovery and rated the injury to be a ‘low pain’.
